It's one of the questions we get asked most often. So here's what we actually mean when we say a piece is waterproof.
Here's what "stainless steel, 18k gold plated" actually means
Every waterproof piece begins with a stainless steel base, finished with an 18k gold plating.
Stainless steel is what gives the jewellery its strength. It doesn't rust, it doesn't react with water and it's suitable for everyday wear.
The gold plating gives each piece its warm finish and colour.
Gold vermeil uses sterling silver beneath the gold, making it softer. Solid gold is exactly that — gold all the way through — and comes with a much higher price tag.
Stainless steel with gold plating sits comfortably between the two: most of the durability, most of the look, at a fraction of the cost.
So... is it actually waterproof?
Yes.
Shower. Ocean. Gym. Rain. Everyday life.
Stainless steel doesn't react with water.
Over many years, the gold plating will naturally become thinner on high-contact areas — the underside of a bracelet clasp, for example. That's normal wear, not a defect.
It happens gradually, and it isn't a reason to take your jewellery off every time you wash your hands or head to the beach.
Wear it. See what happens.

Wear them all day. Give them a soft wipe afterwards. Take them off before the pool or ocean. -
Everything
Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners. They'll wear gold plating much faster than ordinary life ever will.
If a piece can genuinely carry the waterproof claim, it does.
If it can't, we say so.
